Nuevamente la indiferencia del Estado colombiano y la inclemencia del invierno en la Guajira, atacan a Wayúu de la región de Cucurumana, en la vía que de Riohacha conduce a Maicao.
A mes y medio de padecer los estragos del invierno, donde más de 12 mil indígenas fueron damnificados, la historia de repite, al desbordarse el río Ranchería, afectando a más de 500 familias de 20 comunidades, de la región de Cucurumana.
Lo peor, “es que a las 3 de la tarde de hoy un rayo mató a la joven ONEIDA VANGRIEKE de 17 años, en la comunidad el Paso Dos, a 2 kilómetros del Batallón Cartagena, cuando la joven se encontraba al frente de una ventada de su casa”, así lo manifestaron lideres de la comunidad.
La secuela de emergencia pasada, deja como saldo tres niños muertos en el mes de mayo, por diarrea y vómito, ya que las ayudas nunca llegaron, solo brigadas de un día, pero la atención integral en cuanto a salud y reparación de los daños aún esperan, lo que agudiza la situación, “ya que muchos tuvimos que arreglar los ranchos con nuestros limitados medios y ahora si es verdá que quedamos sin nada”.
Ante este silencio cómplice de las instituciones gubernamentales, y del estado colombiano, el próximo lunes 4 de junio, “con el agua en el cuello saldremos a exigir atención a nuestros derechos, más de 300 Wayuu, desde Cucurumana marcharemos hasta la plaza Almirante Padilla, frente a la Alcaldía de Riohacha, a la espera de que por fin nos escuchen y respondan con hechos y no con pañitos de agua tibia nuestras justas peticiones”. Ante estos hechos, la ONIC, reclama la atención del gobierno a a través de las instituciones de emergencia con ayudas humanitarias oportunas necesarias, pero tambien con un plan integral que ayude a resolver el problema de cada invierno.
Se está requiriendo el apoyo solidario para minimizar la tragedia, con agua potable, suero, medicinas básicas, alimento, plástico, maquinaria para evacuar el agua y el barro de las vías carreteables. Y al Gobierno a través del DPND, destine los recursos necesarios y se canalicen con las autoridades indígenas el plan de contingencia para apoyar a las
víctimas.

Once again the indifference of the Colombian State and the harsh winter of la Guajira, attack the Wayúu of the Cucurumana region, on the highway from Riohacha to Maicao.
A month and a half after winter began to wreck destruction that has affected over 12 thousand indigenous people. History repeats itself as the Ranchería River spills over its banks, affecting over 500 families from 20 communities in the Cucurumana region.
And worse, “today at 3 in the afternoon lightning killed a young woman, ONEIDA VANGRIEKE, of 17 years, in the community of Paso Dos, roughly 2 kilometers from the Cartagena Batallion, when Oneida was infront of the wondow of her home", as was told by the community leaders.
This emergency has also left three deaths of children in the month of may, due to diarrhea and vomitting, due to aid that never arrived. Only brigades came through for one day. Thus far the necessary medical attention and repairs from damages do not come, only worsening the situation. “Now that we have had to fix our ranchos ourselves with our limited resources, we are truly without anything”.
In their silence, the government institutions and Colombian state remain complicit. Next Monday the June 4th, “with water up to our necks we will go out and demand our rights, over 300 Wayuu, from Cucurumana we will march to the plaza Almirante Padilla, in front of the City Hall of Riohacha, to remain until we are finally heard and action is taken, though not with band aid remedies from our just demands”. This being stated, the ONIC, demands that the government through its emergency institutions provide humanitarian aid and the necessary support, as well as an intergral plan to help resolve the problems of each winter.
Your solidarity for the victims of this tragedy is being requested in the form of potable water, serum, basic medicines, food, plastic, and machinery to evacuate the water and mud from the affected areas and roads. The government through DPND, send the neccesary resources and implement the contigency plan through the indigenous authorities in order to support the victims.
